Slyrs – Sherry Edition no.1 PX Finish – Tasting Notes

Tasting a sample from Slyrs that is situated in the town of Schliersee in Germany a bit below Munchen. This sample of whisky shared with us by Thomas Hermann is the edition no.1 from the Sherry Edition – PX Finish, bottled at 46%.

The nose is very fruity and fresh. Some soft leather notes with dried fruits, raisins and a creamy feel come straight to mind. Vanilla, white pepper, ginger and lots of sweetness going on in here. On the palate there is lots of dark fruit, honey, raisin, vanilla, cream milk chocolate, aniseed and some fennel.

Fresh due to some orange notes coming through in the back. But very very in the distance, it gives me mostly a creamy and sweet nose and mouth feel. Some lemon maybe also a little bit in it and green apple when diving deeper in it. It does leave like a demerara sugar sweetness on the teeth. It feels like a warming dram, with high notes of the PX influences there, making me want to sit in front a fire just enjoying this dram.
First time I had a taste of anything from this distillery, but this made me very curious to explore more of them, and see what their spirit has done with the different finishes put out on the market by them. Scoring me for now a good 7 out of 10, liking it but just went down a bit due to the very rich PX finish that made it just a bit too sweet for my personal taste. But great tones in it and looks like a promising line they have with the finishes. Thanks for sharing Thomas! Was great exploring this one!
