Gordon & MacPhail – Connoisseurs Choice – Glen Spey 2004/2013

For the Wood Makes the Whisky campaign #WoodMTW from Gordon & MacPhail a sample of the Connoisseurs Choice range was send over. Distilled in 2004 at the Glen Spey distillery and after a couple of years maturing in a refill bourbon barrel it was bottled at 26/09/2013 at 46%. Lets have a closer look at this dram…

First impression on the nose is a fresh dram with soft pomolo citrus mixed with canned peaches, toast, mango, soft pepper and creamy vanilla. A soft note of raspberry and strawberry appears after a while mixing this sweetness with the freshness of oranges, lemon and a hint of eucalyptus.

Some pepper notes, gingerbread, hints of malt and toast between the fruit sweetness and freshness that I also found before on the nose. A soft palate that becomes a bit more tangerines ice cream on the not to long finish with some soft nutty undertone next to it. An enjoyable dram, not overly outspoken flavours in it, but a gentle mix of different types for sure. Thanks for sharing a sample Gordon & MacPhail!
