The Maltman – Glenrothes 27 year old

The Maltman recently released an 27 year old expression distilled in May 1989 at the Glenrothes distillery. In October 2016 after maturing in Oloroso Sherry cask number 7476 it produced in total 282 bottles at 46%.

On the nose it is creamy sweet with thick sponge vanilla cake notes with almonds, pistachios, tutti frutti, raisins, red apple, cherries and dried fruits. There is something in the far back that reminds me of pencils, wax, wood and leather, but very softly. If you had put this blind in front of me I would not have recognized it as a Glenrothes…

From the palate I am getting a soft creamy vanilla note that is mixed with dried prunes, oranges, mint, chocolate, mocha, raisin, brioche and mixed nuts. A soft medium length finish with a hint of orange marmalade and tobacco blending into the vanilla creaminess. Lovely dram! Thanks for sharing Andy!
