In 2014 WhiskySpeller visited this distillery during the Spirit of Speyside Festival and it is lovely to find this 25 year old Mannochmore whisky in the Diageo Special Releases 2016 line up. Matured in a mix of first-fill ex-bourbon American Oak barrels, new American Oak barrels and new and ex-bodega European Oak butts, releasing 3.954 bottles at 53.4%.
Soft vanilla and nutty nose with some fresh notes of pomelo, oranges, apples and lemon thyme. Powdered sugar, almonds, toast, ginger and soft wood spices. The palate has some more stronger notes of prunes, cranberry, coconut and pomegranate mixing through the notes of the nose. Wax, malt, raisins, liquorish and chocolate flakes are mixing between the sweet fruit notes of apples and oranges. The medium length waxy finish shows fresh citrus and fudge notes. Thanks Diageo Netherlands for the sample!
