Baker’s 7 year old

Opening door 20 in the Drinks by the Dram Bourbon Advent Calendar reveals a sample of Baker’s 7 years old at 53,5%! It smells very creamy and sweet at first to me. Warm mixed forrest fruits, vanilla, raisin, hint of wood spices and toffee sweetness. Some orange juice, vanilla sponge cake, maple syrup and pine cones mixed with a hint of rose pedals and floor wax. Sounds like a bit of a crazy mix of notes, but they seem to work good together.

There is a hint of rye and notes of nuts on the palate, but they are quickly pushed to the back by the creamy fruity layers that make this a warming dram. Oranges, lemon, red- and black current, vanilla, banana, apple, raisins, dried apricots, honey, nougat, soft note of roses and salty butter. Those wood spices come back on the medium length finish that gives it a hint of bitterness in the end. But all in all a nice, warming and sweet dram that feels quite balanced. Thanks for sharing a sample Drinks by the Dram!
