Door 23 of the Drinks by the Dram Cognac Advent Calendar opens the way to a sample of the Bache Gabrielsen Pure & Rustic VSOP cognac bottled at 40%. The cognac house of Bache-Gabrielsen was founded in 1905 and still owned and run by the family. This VSOP expression is a blend of 75% Fins Bois and 25% Borderies cognac left to mature in oak casks for around 8 years.

On the nose I can find loads of soft notes, from fruity, spicy, creamy vanilla, different nuts, raisins and coconut shavings. The palate shows some more depth and reveals to me a hint of malt, honey and warm spices mixing in with fruit and vanilla sweetness. Dried fruits like apple, apricots, cranberry and raisins combining with fresh oranges, lemon, kiwi, pineapple and red apples.

Overal a soft and gentle dram, growing sweeter moving from the nose onto the palate and the finish. The honeyed notes linger on for a good time and mixing with some nuts, cinnamon and marzipan in the back. A medium length finish with a good dose of sweetness with baking spices mixing in with vanilla creme and red current, strawberry and raspberry. Thanks for sharing a sample Drinks by the Dram!
