The recently released Speyside Collection from Gordon & MacPhail contains some amazing drams like this Smith’s Glenlivet expression distilled on 11/02/1948 and bottled at 43% on 26/07/2010 after maturing in first fill Sherry butt #545 for 62 years. On the nose I can find notes of spice cake, dried fruits, vanilla, raisin, brown sauce, red apples, heather honey, warm pineapple from the gril, toffee, cinnamon, buns, ginger, wood spices, vanilla buns and mocha. Warm and sweet dram with tropical fruit notes and creamy like mango juice.

The palate shows me some light notes of pencil shavings but not at all interfering with the fresh ginger, red and black pepper, oranges, lime, vanilla, pomegranate, equaliptus, dates, raisins and dried cranberries. Loads of dried and fresh fruits just as on the nose with spices and chocolate chip cookie dough. Creamy sweet and fresh balanced dram with a good length finish that is lingering towards honeycomb waxiness and nutmeg. Thanks for sharing a sample of this beauty Gordon & MacPhail!
