Gordon & MacPhail – Glentauchers 1996/2016

Gordon & MacPhail shared in their #WoodMTW campaign a sample of the Distillery Labels range a bottling from the Glentauchers distillery. Distilled in 1996, bottled in September 2016 at 43% after maturing in first fill ex-Sherry casks. On the nose I can find notes of white wine, green apples, vanilla, raisin, nuts and coffee at first but then sweeter more creamier notes appear from fudge, red apples, oranges and honey. There is a light used leather note mixed with all spice and cumin seeds in the back.

The palate is fruity and I can get distinct notes of honey, vanilla, malt and chocolate flakes. The different kind of fruits are covering the orchard fruits section with notes of red apples and pears clearly but also the more tropical ones like passion fruit, banana, papaya, and a hint of kiwi come forward. Some spice notes on the medium length finish combined with chili pepper and coffee. An interesting dram this one… Thanks for sharing Gordon & MacPhail!
