From Gordon & MacPhail’s Connoisseurs Choice range in the Wood Makes the Whisky campaign a sample was send over of a Glen Elgin bottling, distilled in 1998, matured in refill Sherry casks and bottled in 2014 at 46%. A nose filled with flavours of warm red apples, caramel syrup, whole grain pancakes, nettles, red berries, cashew nuts, beeswax, gingerbread, raspberry and a hint of ripe and juicy cherries.
The palate shows me notes of soft wood, vanilla, honey, blackcurrant, peanuts and cereal. Dried banana, raisins, hint of anise, oranges, and nougat. On the medium length finish a creamy dark chocolate flakes note mixed with caramel syrup, red berries and a hint of sharp bitter lime in the back to give a fresh edge. Thanks Gordon & MacPhail for sharing a sample of this whisky!
