Säntis Malt – Edition Sigel

The Säntis Malt, Edition Sigel is matured in small oak beer casks and bottled at 40%. On the nose I can find sweet flavours of apple sauce with some tobacco leaves mixed through it. Soft spices, fresh apples, soft mixed floral notes and fennel, sweet dates and prunes…

The palate gives me notes of pepper with a hint of clove, a good dose of honey, some tobacco and wood, and a hint of hop in the back behind the red apple, banana, liquorish and dates. There is also a dark, light bitter note behind it all, making me think of dark bitter chocolate or coffee a bit.

Quite a long sticky syrupy finish with soft flower notes and a hint of fudge and honey. Also some dryer spice notes of nutmeg and allspice. Thanks Detlef for sharing a sample!
