That Boutique-y Gin Company – Shortcross (Batch 1)

That Boutique-y Gin Company released batch 1 of the Shortcross expression at the beginning of this year. Bottled at 46%, distilled in Northern Ireland and made with a new botanical mix but based on the recipe of the original Shortcross Gin. Lets have a closer look at it, first undiluted and then with some Fever-Tree tonic added…

On the nose I can find dark liquorice, juniper, zesty lemon, brioche, rose hip, dandelions, clover, gin cake and some soft spices. The palate revealed some juniper, red apple, soft liquorish and almost marzipan sweet notes to me. After that soft vanilla, mixed citrus fruits, black current, powdered sugar and raisins.

Adding some tonic to it makes it less sweet and releases more lemon, ginger, vanilla sponge cake, juniper and coriander on the nose. The palate becomes less marzipan sweet and more fruit sweetness is added. With the added citrus, cardamom and juniper flavours makes it a more balanced feeling. Thanks for sharing a sample That Boutique-y Gin Company!
